Two Mile Campground
Type of camping: Bush campsite
Site accessibility: 4WD recommended
Head out to this secluded fishing spot, Two Mile Hole, a small, tree-lined billabong good for trolling and casting for barramundi and saratoga in Kakadu. This secluded billabong is a popular fishing spot for locals but is rarely visited by travellers. Two kilometres from the entry station is a turn-off to Two Mile Hole Billabong. A 12 km 4WD track through savanna woodlands will deliver you to an area where camping takes place. There are no facilities or defined camping areas and most who venture to this area just find a shaded area to set up camp. There is no formed boat ramp, however there is a boat launching opportunity.
Getting to Two 2 Mile Campground
Maybe closed early in the dry. Two 2 Mile Hole is approx.12 kms
along the track and has a secluded shady campsite with reasonable
boat access. Fishing here is quiet good and especially at Four
Mile Hole
Getting to Four Mile Campground
Getting to Four 4 Mile can be considered by most as rather easy
except me who has to stop and check every road point three times.
To get to the billabong you simply follow the Arnhem Highway all
the way to Kakadu. Once inside Kakadu, you turn left onto the
dirt road (clearly signposted ), located just past the park gates.
Four Mile is situated within the National Park boundaries. Accessing
to Four Mile Hole one will have to backtrack approx. 4+km and
then vear north for 28+kms through swamp lands. This is over a
nerve shattering and back braking corrugated road. The access
road into Four Mile is closed for around eight months of the year
due to the wet season. The reason is the level of damage to the
road by any preceding wet season rainfalls. One should telephone
before hand to Kakadu National Park and check on the local conditions.
One can stock up at Corroboree Park Tavern before turing onto
the access road.
